More about our Pre-School

We are situated in the grounds of Christ Church near the centre of Shamley Green village, which is just outside Guildford in Surrey. Our premises are in a lovely old building surrounded by trees, and we also have an outside play area.

Our pre-school is run on the principles created by Maria Montessori, a movement which is well-known for encouraging children to develop at their own pace.

We place great importance on the value of a caring, safe and stimulating environment where the children feel secure, valued and happy. We also aim to be a valuable part of the community, not just for the children and their parents, but for the whole village.

Our Pre-school is also fully accredited

Shamley Green Montessori setting

Following a visit from an assessor from the Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Board (MEAB), our Pre-School has received re-accreditation. (Our initial accreditation was in 2010).

The MEAB scheme offers support and guidance to Montessori schools in order to ensure that Montessori provision is of a high quality and to reassure parents that their Montessori school meets all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The association with the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and the British Accreditation Council (BAC) ensures the process is independent, with the necessary checks and balances in place.

Some 100 schools, representing a variety of Montessori settings, have been accredited so far.

Part of the report summary says:

"Shamley Green Montessori Pre-School offers a calm, nurturing learning environment in which all the children are actively engaged in activities they enjoy both indoors and outdoors. The provision is dedicated to following the interests of the child, encouraging decision making and exploring the natural world. Children are learning useful skills through a good balance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities."

Read the MEAB Report for full details.

Shamley Green Montessori Pre-school is a member of the Montessori Schools Association and the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
