Shamley Green Montessori Pre-School

We are situated in the grounds of Christ Church near the centre of Shamley Green village, which is just outside Guildford in Surrey. Our premises are in a lovely old building surrounded by trees, and we also have an outside play area.

Our pre-school is run on the principles created by Maria Montessori, a movement which is well-known for encouraging children to develop at their own pace.

We place great importance on the value of a caring, safe and stimulating environment where the children feel secure, valued and happy. We also aim to be a valuable part of the community, not just for the children and their parents, but for the whole village.

Our Pre-school in now fully accredited!

Following a visit from inspectors from the Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Board (MEAB), our Pre-School has received accreditation. The MEAB scheme offers support and guidance to Montessori schools in order to ensure that Montessori provision is of a high quality and to reassure parents that their Montessori school meets all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The association with the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and the British Accreditation Council (BAC) ensures the process is independent, with the necessary checks and balances in place.

Some 85 schools, representing a variety of Montessori settings, have been accredited so far.

The assessors that our Pre-school followed the Montessori ethos and was certainly worthy of accreditation. Part of the report summary says: "Shamley Green Montessori Pre-school offers a genuine Montessori environment. The activities and daily schedule are organised to support the children's exploration and discovery of the world around them. Staff encourage them to make decisions for themselves and to treat the activities and each other with respect. The setting has a calm and nurturing atmosphere."
